Mikey’s Late Night Slice Joining Pins Locations; New DORA Coming Downtown

Plus, three Good Food Awards for Central Ohio purveyors, and Dave’s Hot Chicken opens in Westerville

Mikey’s Late Night Slice announced this week that it will open pizza shops inside the Pins Mechanical Co. locations in Dublin’s Bridge Park and at Easton Town Center this summer. The Mikey’s stores will take over the former Weenie Wonder hot dog joints, which Rise Brands (owner of Pins) shuttered in February.

This week Columbus City Council approved a new DORA—Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area—for Downtown Columbus. Titled the Center City DORA, the district roughly extends north up to Nationwide Boulevard, east to Fourth Street, south to Mound and Main streets and west over the Scioto River to Gift Street in Franklinton. DORA districts allow customers to purchase alcoholic beverages at participating bars and restaurants, then take them outside within the designated boundaries. Pending state approval, the Center City DORA goes live May 24 and will be active daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A trio of Central Ohio businesses took home Good Food Awards in Portland, Oregon, this week. Foris Extraordinary Meats, formerly North Country Charcuterie, won for its Fino salami; Crimson coffee roasters took home the prize for its OneGuatemala Finca El Morito roast; and Seek-No-Further Cidery in Granville was awarded for its Roxbury Russet cider.

Dave’s Hot Chicken opens its newest location on Friday, May 3, at 803 Polaris Parkway in Westerville. This is the third store in Central Ohio for the Los Angeles-based Nashville hot chicken chain. Locations in Dublin and near Ohio State University’s campus opened in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Los Agavez Taqueria, a Clintonville food truck known for its birria tacos, teased a second location this week. Although specific details were not released, the owners shared that it would be a brick-and-mortar location. A new food truck called Ember and Spice debuted yesterday at Land-Grant Brewing Co. The truck serves smashburgers, chicken tenders, tacos, grilled cheese and fries.

A new coffee shop called Coffee on High opened yesterday at 3 S. High St. in Canal Winchester. The shop uses roasts from Jennings Java Coffee Roasters in Merion Village.
